Brighton, long known as London-by-the-Sea where the well to do would “take the waters” is a mere one hour train journey from London Bridge. Brighton is home to the Royal Pavilion (pictured below), the Brighton Pier with old fashioned amusement attractions, lots of lovely vintage shops (everything from clothes to candy), alternative clubs, the Gay Pride Carnival each August, and the Theatre Royal.

Book train tickets in advance and return journeys cost as little as £10 – check for prices and timetables via the National Rail website. National Rail also offers 2 for 1 deals (including the Royal Pavilion) on entry to some of Brighton’s most popular attractions.
